Hampton Roads could face low and potentially harmful air quality through Wednesday night as smoke from wildfires in Canada billow over much of the country. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality on Tuesday issued a Code ORANGE Air Quality Alert for the region — valid from 11:59 p.m. Tuesday to midnight Wednesday — meaning the general public isn't expected to be affected, but those with heart or lung ailments, older adults and children are at risk and should avoid prolonged or heavy outdoor activity.
